The European Central Bank may still create a central clearing house for over-the-counter derivatives despite the fact that Axel Weber, who advocates such an entity, has withdrawn from the race to head the ECB. The central bank is currently developing a trading platform for bonds and equities, which some observers think could lead to a similar platform for derivatives.
