Analysts say mortgage lending in the U.K. is likely to fall this year despite steady increases in 2010. Howard Archer, chief economist at IHS Global Insight, said the U.K. housing market remains “very weak,” and the modest increase in November “does little to dilute the belief that house prices will remain under downward pressure” in the early part of 2011. The upward trend in approvals throughout 2010 was not enough to overcome a 18.6% decline from a year earlier.
