The Harvard University’s endowment received a 21.4 percent return for the year tended June 30. The endowment was valued at $32 billion. Through it, Harvard undertakes activities in areas including faculty salaries, facilities maintenance and financial aid programs. The year’s distributions from the endowment contributed nearly a third of the operating budget. More than 60 percent of Harvard undergraduates are receiving need-based scholarship support in the current year, totaling more than $160 million. The endowment has received an average annual return of 12.9 percent over the past 20 years, outperforming the Policy Portfolio benchmark.
