Sheila Bair, chair of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., says she supports stricter capital requirements for banks similar to those proposed by the U.K.’s Independent Commission on Banking, reports Financial Times.

Bair also noted in an interview that regulators have the authority to force banks to break up, a power that “could and should be used.”
