Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guaranteed 75% of mortgage-backed securities in the first quarter, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency. The FHFA, which oversees the government-sponsored enterprises, also said that residential mortgage originations plunged 35% in the first three months of this year compared with the fourth quarter of 2010.
