As the FSA’s chief hedge fund watchdog, Hector Sants embodies the U.K.'s firm but friendly style of regulation.

For Hector Sants, who runs the Financial Services Authority’s wholesale and institutional markets division, the first rule of regulating hedge funds is engagement. Although the FSA already has a variety of regulatory tools in place that enable it to work with the hedge fund industry, Sants is trying to modernize the agency’s data collection strategies and interact more closely with fund managers.
