Sanford C. Bernstein & Co equity analyst (and Institutional Investor All American Research Team No. 1-ranked analyst in Brokers, Asset Management & Exchanges for three out of the past four years) Charles “Brad” Hintz on Friday lifted a toast to the veterans of the armed services – in particular to the men who served with him on the USS Providence (CLG-6) in the Philippines.

Hintz, 61, who also spent three years as chief financial officer of the former investment bank Lehman Brothers, sent out a missive Friday to his clients commemorating Veterans Day, giving thanks to the veterans for their service and recalling his own days as Ensign Hintz.

“While I was not a volunteer, my active duty changed my life,” recalled Hintz, who was drafted into the Navy and served from 1971 to 1972. “The memory of those days are still vivid today; tropical-white officers’ uniforms and polished brass,” wrote Hintz, who today is known more for cogent insights on the financial services industry than his fighting prowess.
