Jill Schurtz

Jill Schurtz
Robeco-Sage Capital Management

As CEO of $1.3 billion-in-assets, New York–based Robeco-Sage Capital Management, Jill Schurtz is among an elite group of new talent who are providing a desperately needed jolt to the fund-of-hedge-funds industry. Schurtz, 47, was appointed CEO of Robeco-Sage in June of last year after the firm’s previous chief executive left to join Cornell University.

She doesn’t have the background of a typical hedge fund executive. In 1986, Schurtz graduated with honors from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a degree in strategic and diplomatic history — the first woman to receive the Commandant’s Award for leadership. After the military she went into investment banking before getting a law degree from Columbia Law School. She joined Robeco-Sage in 2008 and recently led the negotiations to find a buyer for the business, finalizing a deal with Arden Asset Management this month. The purchase is expected to close in October.
