Anna Sullivan, director of the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement System, resigned from her position Sept. 30. Randy Gerke, the fund’s accounting and finance manager, has been named interim director and will return to his previous role when a permanent director is hired.
An audit by the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Board was conducted in August and its findings suggested replacing Sullivan because of poor communication between her, managers and staff, as well as a widespread sense of fear that has lowered morale and created a hostile attitude by the PERS chairperson towards legitimate oversight. “It was all done behind closed doors,” Gerke said.
