CTAs Surge, but Assets Slump

Managed futures funds are enjoying their best performance since 2014, but many of them suffered sharp redemptions before this runup.

CTAs are poised to post their best results in six years. But — as is often the case — many investors had bailed out of the strategy before they had a chance to participate in the rally.

According to the latest data from hedge fund scorekeeper eVestment, CTAs — which it calls managed futures funds — have suffered a 22 percent increase in net redemptions since the end of 2017.
