It seems clear that the institutionalization of the hedge fund business is quickly advancing. As some hedge funds morph from specialized active management shops of 20 or fewer people to global, multi-asset-category behemoths, institutionalization is being driven by — and seems to benefit — the new marginal investors in hedge funds: large public and private pension funds.
