Managers not deterred by crackdown on Wall Street, lawyers say

Despite the fact that the government is cracking down on insider trading schemes and handing out longer sentences, some traders will still take opportunities to make a quick buck, say Wall Street attorneys.

Even as many insider trading cases have been brought to trial and managers have been arrested and even jailed, experts in the field don’t think this will help deter managers from continuing to trade on material non-public information.

The sentences for these crimes have gotten longer and are usually “life ruining sentences,” said Gerald Shargel, attorney at the New York Law Offices of Gerald L.
