SEC Commissioner Walter Says Accredited Investor Standards are Too Low

Elisse Walter is calling for a major overhaul of how the Securities and Exchange Commission defines an accredited investor, arguing that the current standards don’t go far enough to protect individual investors.

Many frustrated would-be hedge fund investors think it’s unfair that only wealthy people can have access to the so-called smart money set. But at least one of the five commissioners of the Securities and Exchange Commission thinks it ought to be harder, not easier, to invest in these funds.
