Surprise: Internet Retailers See a Surge in Short Interest

While short interest in retailers as a whole has fallen, it has risen for those that only sell online — and some hedge funds are placing these bets even as the stocks climb.

It’s no secret that one of the most popular and lucrative short themes of the past couple of years or so has been the brick-and-mortar retailers that have been shuttering stores and filing for bankruptcy faster than you can say “Amazon.”
