The Akron Community Foundation board approved $1.78 million in donations this quarter.

The Akron Community Foundation board approved $1.78 million in donations this quarter. The donations included 142 grants on behalf of its designated, donor-advised and scholarship funds. Out of the total discretionary grants, $105,000 was offered to organizations that provide food to needy Summit County residents, $65,000 went to shelter and furniture programs, and $85,000 was given for medical care to residents who cannot afford it.

Top grants included $35,000 to Mobile Meals, $25,000 to Access and $25,000 to Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. The foundation also offered $25,000 to the Waiting Child Fund for its Summit Permanency Collaborative, which aims to reduce the number of children living in foster care and the time they spend in the system. The foundation is a $135 million philanthropic endowment with a growing family of nearly 400 funds established by charitable people and organizations.
