Labor Dept Gives Memphis Foundation $3.7M

The Memphis Bioworks Foundation has received a $3.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Memphis Bioworks Foundation has received a $3.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Memphis Daily News reports. The money has been provided to deliver high-growth jobs training and jobs-placement assistance for long-term unemployed U.S. workers.

Under the H-1B Technical Skills Training grant, the foundation will head a group of training providers, including Southwest Tennessee Community College, Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis, Seedco and Workforce Investment Network (WIN). The consortium will provide classroom training in seven healthcare occupational fields to workers in Shelby and Fayette counties who have been unemployed for six months or longer.
