Silver ETFs outperformed gold in 2011.

Silver ETFs outperformed gold in 2011, Seeking Alpha reports. The largest silver ETF iShares Silver Trust rose 30% in 2011, while the SPDR Gold Shares was up nearly 13%. Silver ETFs have more than doubled the return of gold prices as smaller investors are turning to silver, which is cheaper than gold per ounce, to hedge against inflation and market volatility. The world investment demand for silver has reached 279.3 million ounces, up 40% since 2009.
