Ethiopia Commodity Bourse Plans Expansion

The Ethiopia Commodity Exchange is planning to increase the number of agricultural items traded on the exchange.

The Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) is planning to increase the number of agricultural items traded on the exchange, Reuters reports. The bourse currently trades coffee, maize, sesame and white pea beans through an open cry system.

ECX may add sorghums, chick peas, lentils and niger seeds in 2012 by improving its warehouse facilities. The exchange is also planning to introduce forward and future contracts in the next three years to allow people to manage price risks and reduce hoarding.
