Janus Capital Management is to expand its separately managed accounts staff with a manager-level hire. Janus has created a new position of platform manager to focus on the SMA channel, according to spokeswoman Shelley Peterson. The position will report to Dave Weitzenfeld, v.p. of global platform services. Weitzenfeld also focuses on SMA distribution.

The growth comes as Janus has seen its SMAs launch on six new platforms this year up from two in 2005. Janus has relationships with Merrill Lynch and Wachovia (www.fundaction.com, 3/3). Peterson declined to name the new platforms.

The new manager will work with Weitzenfeld on distribution strategy and will work with Janus’ sales staff on SMA-related topics.

Janus has been expanding its distribution network (www.fundaction.com, 4/21), increasing its external wholesaling staff from eight to about 40.
