New York–based multistrategy hedge fund firm Fir Tree Partners might like to keep a low profile, but with about $9 billion in assets, that’s getting tougher. As co-head of trading, Elliot Ruda helps Fir Tree do what it does well — make money — by working hard to get best execution in the markets. Ruda, 34, grew up in Brooklyn and has a BS in finance and marketing from the State University of New York at Albany. He spent five years as a market maker in equities and equity derivatives at Citigroup in New York before joining Fir Tree in 2005. Besides overseeing the trading desk, Ruda identifies investment ideas for the firm, which specializes in deep-value and mispriced securities. Investors have taken note: Fir Tree grew its assets by 20 percent last year. |
