D.E. Shaw Settles Civil Charges With the SEC

The hedge fund giant has settled charges alleging that the firm had made it nearly impossible for employees to be whistleblowers.

D.E. Shaw & Co. agreed to pay $10 million to settle civil charges alleging that it had raised impediments for would-be whistleblowers.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said in its announcement that the hedge fund giant required employees to sign agreements prohibiting them from disclosing confidential corporate information to third parties, without an exception for potential SEC whistleblowers.
