Happy family offices are not all alike. Some, it turns out, want to use their experience to help out others -- for a price, of course.

In a case of the rich helping the rich, several big family offices that have been investing in hedge funds for years are now trying to convince their peers that they qualify as serious funds of hedge funds. Their pitch, as explained by Contributor Mindy Rosenthal in “Family Matters” (page 18), is that they have both expertise in the hedge fund realm and connections: Their extensive networking, much of it among other family offices, helps them to discover hot, unheralded hedge funds.
