Be it because of the memories of 1987 or the myriad corporate doomsday rumors, daily market swings have turned investing into a high-stakes game of chicken. The upshot, as this month’s wall rises to 14 from ten: Bargains are showing up, but you have to be fast and ready, as they can be fleeting. There is plenty of worry in the market to start November, but therein lies opportunity. So buy what you like for the long term and gird yourself for a heapin’ helpin’ of short-term volatility, because the game is getting rough and will likely stay that way.
