In December 2005, Hemant Baijal and Wim Vandenhoeck launched a New York–based hedge fund called Aravali Partners after quitting their jobs at Havell Capital Management, a fixed-income shop where they had worked since 1996. Although 2005 had been a good year, Baijal and Vandenhoeck yearned to strike out on their own.
