Alpha Natural Resources has bought Massey Energy for about $7.1 billion, The Wall Street Journal reports. Alpha Natural has acquired all outstanding shares of Massey stock.
Following the merger, the new company will operate 150 mines, 40 coal-preparation plants and employ 14,000 people. The combined company will continue to work with the Alpha name and board.
