CME Freezes Gasoline Trading

CME Group stopped the trading in crude oil, heating oil and gasoline for the first time in over two years, The Wall Street Journal reports. The move by the commodities exchange was initiated by a fall in gasoline futures.

The drop triggered circuit breakers on CME’s electronic-trading platform, Globex, leading to a five-minute freeze for the commodity contracts. The last halt in oil trading due to trading limits occurred in September 2008.
