In November, Dominic Rossi, former head of global equities at Threadneedle Asset Management, will become chief investment officer at London-based Gartmore — but he won’t do much investing. Rossi, 44, earned his reputation by playing a lead role in building up Threadneedle’s £962 million ($1.7 billion) Latin American fund. At Gartmore, he will oversee the company’s investment division, which has £24 billion under management and more than 90 people in London, Tokyo and Boston. According to Phil Wagstaff, global head of distribution at Gartmore, the firm is bulking up its institutional, hedge and retail funds — it has hired six analysts for its fund divisions so far this year and plans to add more. Rossi will oversee the hedge funds’ risk management division and work to strengthen the investment teams.
