The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged Anna Boling, Roderic Boling and Jeffrey Mills, along with the latter’s company, Direct Results, for broadcasting hundreds of thousands of fraudulent “wrong number” messages that offered worthless stock tips. According to the SEC, the messages were meant to appear as if the caller, often identifying herself as Debbie, had misdialed a friend to offer the tips. “We should not let the novelty of these voicemail touts overshadow the fact that what we have here, at the end of the day, is a fraudulent scheme motivated by greed,” John Reed Stark, head of the SEC’s Office of Internet Enforcement, said in a statement.
