The reasons behind the comings and goings could not be ascertained.Juanita Gutierrez, HSBC spokeswoman, declined comment. Overley, along with a recently departed underling Ming Ming Lau, have been connected to roles at Citigroup, where Samir Mathur, head of structured products, and Danielle Romero-Apsilos, spokeswoman, did not return calls.

Aside from Tobin, the firm has filled a number of other new spots: Mike DeSantis joins as a senior v.p. and senior marketer in structured fund products from Morgan Stanley Investment Management; Larry Smith as head of corporate structuring for equity derivatives in the Americas from CBM Capital; Christina Qian is a v.p. and structurer in structured fund products from Bear Stearns; and Alana Bergstein has come on board as a v.p. and structurer in corporate equity derivatives from Silverback.
