ECB Stops Bond Purchases

The European Central Bank stopped buying eurozone government bonds last week for the first time since October last year.

The European Central Bank (ECB) stopped buying eurozone government bonds last week for the first time since October last year, Financial Times reports. The European institution, which administers the monetary policy of the eurozone member states, spent €146 million a week before in buying government bonds, adds Reuters.

ECB, which launched the purchase program in 2010 to stabilize the euro, has so far purchased €76.5 billion worth of securities. ECB buys government and corporate bonds from banks and other investors under the program.
