First Branded Global Fund For Schwab

Charles Schwab & Co. plans to launch its first global fund under the Schwab brand name.

Charles Schwab & Co. plans to launch its first global fund under the Schwab brand name. Schwab’s branded equity funds invest only in the U.S. and use a quantitative strategy based on the Schwab Equity Ratings system, but the Schwab Global Real Estate Fund will not be quant-based. Sandra Harris, spokeswoman, declined to comment on the fund itself or Schwab’s plans for launching more international or global offerings.

Most of Schwab’s funds are quant-based, though its bond funds are not. Schwab also has non-quant funds under the Laudus MarketMasters brand, including an international fund. Schwab uses subadvisors for those funds.

Jeff Mortimer, senior v.p. of Schwab, is named as the only portfolio manager in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
