George Walker reportedly is a man who likes to be on the move, so betting folks may want to take that into account when wagering on the outcome of the battle between Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers for his professional affections. According to The Wall Street Journal, Lehman is trying to woo Walker, a second cousin to President George W. – for Walker – Bush, away from Goldman, where he’s worked for 14 years. The Journal says the Lehman courtship, which would land him as head of its asset-management division, has been going on for months. At Goldman, Walker currently makes outside private equity and hedge fund investments for clients – reportedly his 11th job there since joining in 1992. Though Goldman is a more powerful firm, and with possible even bigger gigs there down the road, why would Walker lean toward Lehman? The Journal, citing an interview with his alma mater, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, states that his advice to new graduates was to “embrace change.” Walker may show himself to be a man of his words.
