Nearly half of the up-and-coming stars in the world of financial trading come from alternative investments firms, according to Trader Monthly’s second annual listing of “30 under 30.” Selected based on input from readers and the investment community, the list consists of 28 men and just two women, with two-thirds of them based in New York. It is safe to say that at least 14 toil in hedge funds or private equity, judging from the firms they work for; though the list did not describe the positions of those in some multi-purpose firms. In alphabetical order, the rising alt-stars are: Chandler Bocklage, SAC Capital Advisors; Gualtiero Giori, Sagio Investments; Adam Grunfeld, Comac Capital, Gabriel Hammond, Alerian Capital Management; Chris Lanigan, Ziff Brothers Investments; Austin Lewis, Lewis Asset Management; Darren Petterson, TansMarket Group; Jennifer Pomerantz, Sandell Asset Management; Scott Shleifer, Tiger Global Management; Paul Sohn, Kingdon Capital Management; Timothy Sykes, Cilantro Fund Partners; Andrew Warford, Maverick Capital; David Wertentheil, Carlin Financial; and Travis Williamson, DCF Capital. Sykes was notably singled out for having founded his Cilantro Fund Partners just three years ago while a senior at Tulane University.
