Bank of America Merrill Lynch and China International Capital Corp. lay claim to the highest number of first-place positions, with five apiece.

Eight firms earn at least one first-place position on the 2015 All-China Research Team, Institutional Investor’s sixth annual ranking of the nation’s leading sell-side equity analysts. Half the sector-topping performances can be traced to two firms: Bank of America Merrill Lynch and China International Capital Corp., with five victories each in the 20-sector survey. (A total of 15 firms are represented on this year’s team; click here to view the full list.)

BofA Merrill’s analysts are deemed the best in the two Consumer categories, Discretionary and Nondiscretionary, as well as in Industrials, Internet and Telecommunications.

CICC’s outperform all others in Banks, Economics, Infrastructure & Transportation, Insurance and Portfolio Strategy. The firm’s Junhua Mao is the only person to top two rosters this year, Banks (for a third year running) and Insurance (for the first time).

Two previously unranked researchers shoot straight in to the top of their respective rosters: BofA Merrill’s Yuanyuan (Tina) Long, in Consumer/Nondiscretionary, and Hong Liang of CICC, in Economics.
