Morgan Stanley is considering dropping the Smith Barney name from its force of about 18,000 advisors.

Morgan Stanley is considering dropping the Smith Barney name from its force of about 18,000 advisors, The Wall Street Journal reports. Clients of the investment bank’s joint venture, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, have been asked to select from six potential names. The new names are Morgan Stanley Advisors, Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Advisors, Morgan Stanley Global Wealth Advisors, Morgan Stanley Wealth Advisors, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley Global Wealth Management. In 2009, Morgan Stanley acquired a 51% stake in Smith Barney from Citigroup.
