Financial Institutions – Banks/Midcap: Third 2012

Kevin St. Pierre
Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.

Hailed as someone who is “neither distracted by management spin nor cowed by market fears,” as one portfolio manager puts it, Kevin St. Pierre repeats at third. The Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. researcher, who follows 30 companies, impressed investors with a valuation-based upgrade of SunTrust Banks from market perform to outperform in December, at $16.76. By late August shares of the Atlanta-based superregional bank, which has branches from Florida to Washington, D.C., had vaulted 50.2 percent, to $25.17, and trumped the sector by 29.7 percentage points. St. Pierre still considers the stock undervalued and continues to recommend it.
