Daniel Heyler, Dong-Je (Simon) Woo & team Bank of America Merrill Lynch

The buy side says: “Unique analysis coupled with fast response to investors.”

The five-member crew at Bank of America Merrill Lynch takes first place for a second straight year. Co-led by Daniel Heyler in Hong Kong and Seoul-based Dong-Je (Simon) Woo, the analysts track 30 companies and expect to add names this year. “We are positive on the semiconductor sector due to low inventory, improving macro conditions and continued consolidation,” says Heyler, 47, who holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Illinois’s Northwestern University and joined BofA Merrill in 1999 after working for semiconductor manufacturers in Silicon Valley and Taiwan. Woo, 44, moved to the firm in 2003 from Hyundai Securities Co., where he was head of technology research; he earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce at the University of Toronto. The analysts have “called the stocks correctly,” and their “knowledge of the sector is superb,” investors say. — Pam Baker
