With hedge funds making themselves available to the not-so-wealthy by lowering the minimum investable amount, it should come as no surprise that CI Investments is taking an opposite approach with its usually bargain-priced mutual fund products. Looking to break into the well-heeled investment marker, CI has launched its Portfolio Select Series, which requires a minimum investment of $50,000. For that investment, customers will get four multi-manager portfolio funds that include U.S., Canadian and international equities as well as securities designed to earn income. Investors are not locked in to a given combination of four long-term funds of funds in nine core portfolios, but will be able to customize their portfolios according to asset class, region, sector, portfolio manager or investment style.
