This year marks Institutional Investor’s 18th annual hedge fund Rich List. As the very first introduction said in 2002, “The rich are different from you and me. They run hedge funds.”
Most of the names from those early lists will be familiar to readers today: George Soros, James Simons, Ken Griffin, David Tepper, and so on. Others have dropped off the radar, such as Andrew Midler of Standard Pacific Capital, which reportedly shut down in 2016.
