Gates Foundation Gives $4.7M To READ Global

The Washington-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given a grant of $4.7 million to Rural Education and Development Global.

The Washington-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given a grant of $4.7 million to Rural Education and Development Global (READ Global). The grant reflects the foundation’s commitment to public library systems. READ Global focuses on sustainable growth and empowerment in rural Asia through community library and resource centres.

The grant will be paid out over three years during which READ Global will start projects to increase its impact in rural communities. The funds will be invested in expansion of information communications technology, development of higher income generating business models and in the pilot of a “hub and satellite” READ Center model.
