The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation contributed a total of $2.5 billion in 2010, The Seattle Times reports. The 2010 commitment grants is about $500 million less than that in 2009.

Donations to U.S. programs, mainly for education, dropped from $488 million to $340 million, moving from about 16% of total spending to 15%. The foundation had $37.4 billion in assets at the end of 2010, while its assets were about $34 billion in 2009.
