Denmark May End Short Selling Ban

Denmark may eliminate a ban on the short selling of shares in listed Danish banks.

Denmark may eliminate a ban on the short selling of shares in listed Danish banks, Reuters reports. In a memorandum to parliament’s European affairs committee, finance minister Claus Frederiksen said the government supported transparency in short selling and trade in credit default swaps “to the extent that it can reduce risk to financial stability.” The Danish ban will be lifted or changed to comply with proposed European Union regulations, Frederiksen added. The country had enforced the ban in October 2008.
