SEC Proposes Moving Swaps Trading To Exchanges

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed requiring that swaps be traded on regulated platforms—swap execution facilities--or exchanges, a major provision of the Dodd-Frank Act, reports Advanced Trading.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed requiring that swaps be traded on regulated platforms—swap execution facilities--or exchanges, a major provision of the Dodd-Frank Act. The SEC has recommended a regulatory scheme for the SEFs, but the swaps industry has expressed concern that the facilities may operate too much like exchanges, a model it says does not work for less frequently traded swaps.
