A standout among a new generation of talented global-macro investors, 44-year-old Joshua Berkowitz believes emerging markets will continue to drive global growth. Executing on his thesis last year as CEO and CIO of Woodbine Capital Advisors, Berkowitz came out on top.

The New York–based firm he founded in 2008 was up 13.15 percent, net of fees. It’s no surprise, then, that Woodbine already has $3 billion in assets. Closed to new investors, the fund enjoyed one of the most successful launches in recent years.

Before forming Woodbine, Berkowitz, armed with an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business, spent six years as a proprietary trader for Goldman Sachs, set up a macro platform for SAC Capital Advisors and, most recently, was the global-macro portfolio manager for Soros Fund Management in New York.
