Maurice Nhan’s forte is dealing with shrinking exports and sagging growth. The veteran banker became Société Générale’s country officer for Singapore and Southeast Asia in January. His strategy: Adapt to economic realities by keeping a tight rein on both costs and risks. But Nhan, who began his career with the bank in 1990, says it will “continue to invest to strengthen our operations,” including helping financial institutions invest in foreign countries and raise capital in Europe. A French national born in Vietnam, Nhan was a vice president at SocGen in Hong Kong during the Asian financial crisis and made his mark in 2005 in export and project financing as chief country officer for Vietnam. Nhan replaces Eric Wormser, who will head up SocGen’s operations in the Middle East.
