At No. 3 for a second consecutive year is the Bank of America Merrill Lynch squad under the direction of Angello Chan, who works out of Hong Kong. Investors hail this group’s coverage of independent power producers and renewable energy players, as well as the researchers’ fundamental analytical skills and strong understanding of the industry chain. Spread throughout the region, the 20 analysts monitor 50 Asian power names and forecast that their sector will outperform this year. As of late April, it had, rising 3.1 percent year to date while the broader regional market was nearly flat. One of their preferred companies is China Longyuan Power Group Corp. They project strong growth for the Chinese wind farm operator and deem its shares oversold, assigning them a buy rating and a target price of HK$11. In late April they were trading at HK$8.44. This year, Chan also co-leads, with Chi Hung (Raymond) Ngai, the No. 2 team in Hong Kong coverage.
