Mizuho Securities Group analyst Takeshi Koyama advances from third place to reclaim the No. 2 position he most recently held in 2010, the year he debuted on this roster. Koyama predicts that smartphone game markets will continue to flourish through September, when growth could peak and therefore become a concern. The challenge for gaming companies then, he advises, will be to find and offer new game categories or new ways to play games on smartphones. His coverage universe includes 13 names, and a favorite among these is Square Enix Holdings Co. The researcher urged investors to buy shares of the Tokyo-based role-playing-game developer in August, at ¥1,503, and by mid-March they had bolted 42.1 percent, to ¥2,136, against the sector’s 9.8 percent gain. As long as the market for their products continues to expand, explains Koyama, “game software names like Square Enix should be the beneficiary, in addition to the pure players like Colopl.”
