Mortgage lending in the U.K. rose to its highest level in 11 months in January, according to the Bank of England. The central bank reported that lending increased by £1.8 billion ($2.92 billion), more than three times the preceding six-month average of £500 million ($811.1 million), and up slightly from the December figure. Remortgage activity was also about 10% higher in January than the average for the preceding six months.
