SECOND TEAM

P.J. Juvekar Citi

After two years in a row at No. 1, P.J. Juvekar slips to second place. The Citi researcher is known for “strong stock recommendations,” as one loyalist puts it, especially a July 2010 upgrade of Canada’s Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan from hold to buy, at a split-adjusted $34.14, partly on rising grain prices. In March, after the Saskatoon-based fertilizer supplier’s stock had catapulted 70.3 percent, to $58.15, and outpaced the sector by 41.9 percentage points, Juvekar downgraded it back to hold, on valuation. At the end of August, the share price was little changed, at $57.98. “P.J. compiles the best earnings models,” declares another backer.
