The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will consider margin requirements for uncleared swaps for swap dealers and major swap participants on April 12, Bloomberg reports. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) will also consider capital and margin requirements held by banks in swap transactions.
The Dodd-Frank bill enacted last year seeks to reduce risks in derivatives transactions by requiring firms to set aside additional capital and post margin. The CFTC will begin finalizing rules for the over-the-counter swaps markets later this year, adds Reuters.
